THE Yorkshire Over-55s Bowls League indoor season opened with an all-New Earswick clash between the Falcons and the Eagles.
The Eagles are a new team for this season and they went down 94-64 (12-2) against their club-mates.
The game was very close for the first 18 ends, with the Falcons leading in three of the four rinks but the scores being tied at 63-63.
Dave Imeson, Paul Murray, Vic Thompson and Mick Head scored two fours and a single at the last three ends to go from 15-13 up to beat Dave Counter, Pete Lee, Pete Waddington and Dave Hutchinson 24- 13.
Dave Furness, Bill Nuckey, Dave Clayden and Kevin Liddell finished with a four, a two and a six to go from 20-13 to 33-13 against Brian Harton, Barry Harrison, Roger Cann and Bruce Dobson.
Al Edington, John Palfrey, Joe Barker and Dave Sykes, the only Eagles rink to win, dropped seven shots at the last three ends to go from 22-4 up to beat Rob Dunhill, Pat Inwood, Graham Lockwood and Eric Cookson 22-11.
John Harrison, Brian Birch, Ralph Tiplady and Bill Waldie scored two singles at the 16th and 17th end to lead 26-15.
Dick Hardy, John Cocker, Alwyn Anderson and Gary Stockton picked up a single at the last end for the only shot the Eagles scored in the last three ends of the match.
The final result was a 94-64 win for the Falcons, who picked up 12 points to the Eagles' two.
