COACH James Ford has admitted that key starters Jason Bass and Graeme Horne will be unlikely to feature for York City Knights in the first game of the play-offs against Toulouse on Saturday.

Last weekend's results saw Toulouse secure home advantage over York in the qualification final of the Betfred Championship play-offs, with the winner progressing to visit Toronto in the semi-finals and the loser hosting the winner of Leigh and Featherstone.

York ended their regular season campaign with a 14-8 win over Halifax at the Shay Stadium, though it came at a price as Bass and Horne both left the action before the final hooter due to injury.

And it looks as if the pair could be missing for Saturday's fixture, joining Perry Whiteley and Kriss Brining on the sidelines.

Ford hasn't ruled out their inclusion for the game though.

"Jason Bass and Graeme Horne are both in the squad for Saturday and we’re going to give them every chance for them to prove that they are fit enough to play," he said.

"They’ll travel with us but it looks unlikely that they will play. A couple of other players have got bumps and bruises but I won’t go into too much detail on those. They’ve passed as fit to play."

Despite the loss of two regulars, Ford and his squad remain in an upbeat, he says.

"We’re in a good spot. We’re in a confident mood because of both our performances and results all year to be honest, especially those results in the run in to the end of the season.

"We’ve had a good week’s preparation this week, there’s a lot of clarity about our plan and what we’re setting out to do.

"I think we’re confident because we’ve played play-off rugby league all season.

"We’ve played in tight matches and we’ve had to complete our sets, build pressure, defend hard in most of our matches all year. That’s the way that we’ve won our matches. I think it’ll put us in good stead for the game this weekend."

York squad: Marsh, Salter, Hey, Chilton, Robinson, Dixon, Jubb, Teanby, Jordan-Roberts, S Scott, Spears, Horne, Blagbrough, Kelly, Stock, Bass, Baldwinson, Harris, Oakes.
