IN-FORM Selby Town hit back from a goal down to beat Brigg Town and return to the top of Toolstation Northern Counties East League division one.

The Robins have now taken 13 points from their opening five games of the campaign in the wake of their latest win at the Fairfax Plant Hire Stadium.

The home side had the ball in the net early on but the goal was ruled out for offside and they struggled for the remainder of the first period.

Goalkeeper Pete Lawrie was called upon to make a point blank save from a corner, while at the other end Chris Jackson brought the Brigg keeper into action.

Brigg’s Joe Smithson opened the scoring on 33 minutes with a scuffed effort that arced agonisingly over Lawrie.

They might have doubled their lead but Lawrie was grateful to see a shot come off a post into his arms.

Substitutions early in the second period shook things up for Selby and the chances started to flow.

There was a stroke of luck about the 75th minute equaliser as substitute Harry Bissett sent in a cross from the left and a Brigg defender diverted the ball into his own net.

The winner came four minutes from time when Bissett's low cross to the far post was met by Jackson, who forced the ball into the net despite a desperate attempt by the Brigg keeper.

Selby's next outing is Saturday's FA Vase first round qualifying trip to Oldham-based Avro.

Danny Earl fired a second-half hat-trick as Pickering Town beat Bridlington Town 3-1 in the FA Cup preliminary round.

After Bridlington led 1-0 at half-time, Earl netted on 74 minutes and 83 minutes to put the Pikes in front before scoring from the rebound after his penalty was saved with three minutes remaining.

Jonathon Margetts’ sixth minute goal earned Tadcaster Albion a 1-0 victory at Frickley Athletic.

Albion host Pickering today in the BetVictor Northern Premier north west division (3pm).

In the Betvictor Northern Premier League top flight, Jordan Deacey's 26th minute goal was enough to give Scarborough Athletic a 1-0 win at FC United of Manchester.
