YORK CITY KNIGHTS are offering free tickets to former players as part of their ‘#RetroRound’ for Sunday’s match against Featherstone Rovers (3pm).

Free tickets for the game will be given to former players of both the York City Knights and Featherstone Rovers and are able to be claimed at the Bootham Crescent club shop prior to kick-off.

Further to that, as part of the club’s ‘#RetroRound’ social media campaign, York are handing “two special half-time prizes” to fans from both sides wearing the best retro shirts, according to their website.

The match itself is a vital one for the Knights with victory securing their place in the Betfred Championship play-offs for the first time in the club’s history.

To do so though, they’ll have to defeat a Featherstone side who sit just a place below York in fifth and have won 11 of their last 13 matches.

That runs includes a 66-16 rout over Swinton Lions in their last outing at the LD Nutrition Stadium, racking up 12 tries in the victory.

In regards to the retro shirts campaign York chairman Jon Flatman said: “It is always a great occasion whenever York play Featherstone, as we have already seen at the LD Nutrition Stadium and at the Summer Bash in Blackpool earlier this season.

“The fans from both clubs really get behind their teams in good nature and hopefully we will see more of the same in the Bootham Crescent sunshine this Sunday, resplendent in their shirts from bygone eras as we celebrate the #RetroRound.”

Featherstone Rovers chief executive officer Davide Longo added: “Both Featherstone and York are performing at the top of the Championship this season and we’ve already witnessed two extremely entertaining games between the two teams in 2019.

“I’m sure fans of both teams will create an amazing atmosphere with a number of travelling Rovers fans expected to get behind our team.

"I hope that our fans continue to respect all the players, officials and opposition fans like they have been since the launch of our #LetsTackleThisTogether campaign.”
