YORK City chairman Jason McGill’s company JM Packaging will be the club’s new shirt sponsors for the 2019/20 season.

The Malton-based business will be taking over from Benenden Health whose seven-year sponsorship of the club ceased this summer.

It is understood that the deal will see JM Packaging match the annual financial contributions made by Benenden during their last three-year agreement with the club on top of the operating losses that McGill's company currently cover on an ongoing basis.

JM Packaging are a leading supplier of bespoke flexible packaging to the UK food industry, specialising in stand-up pouches, vacuum pouches, as well as printed film and specialist lidding films.

Commenting on the new sponsorship agreement, City commercial manager Chris Pegg said: "We are extremely grateful that JM Packaging is able to step in and financially commit to being the club’s main shirt sponsor for next season.

"Several factors, including the deadline for next season’s shirt production, the timing of Benenden Health ending their faithful sponsorship, and the vacant commercial manager's role unfortunately left the club with limited time and resources to find a main shirt sponsor. In the short time available, we discussed the opportunity with both regional and national organisations who are excited to partner with the club moving forward and, although these time-sensitive discussions could not quite gain traction, they are continuing and we hope to deliver a main shirt sponsor who will provide a fresh revenue stream for the 2020/21 season.

"At such an exciting time for York City, as we target success on the pitch as well as the move to the new Community Stadium, I am pleased the chairman and J M Packaging can demonstrate their commitment and support and that the club can reciprocate, providing some much-deserved exposure.”

City’s majority shareholder McGill added: "JM Packaging are proud to be sponsoring York City at this exciting time and this partnership once again serves to underline my on-going financial commitment to the club."
