YORK City Ladies were seconds away from recording a massive upset in the race for the North East Regional Women's Premier League football title.
Fourth-placed City led table-toppers Huddersfield Town 1-0 courtesy of Nadine Lewycky's 41st-minute strike.
But, after five minutes of injury time, the visitors mounted one last attack. A corner was cleared to the edge of the area where Town striker Dawn Kellet hooked it back past the stranded Lottie Simpson in City's goal.
The result should not have been in doubt but City missed a series of glaring chances.
Lauren Shuttleworth had a couple of early opportunities, Ruth Brazier hit the bar and Kelly Chesterton and Lewycky both put efforts wide.
The same duo linked up for City's goal, Chesterton's dipping shot parried by the 'keeper for Lewycky to slot home from close range.
City were much the better side, dominating large passages of play and causing the leaders a host of problems, especially through Sara Renfrew's runs down the right.
City travel to Darlington this weekend hoping to avenge their FA Cup defeat last week.
City Ladies reserves' hot-shot Carol Thompson took her tally to 11 goals in two matches during a 6-0 victory over Thirsk. Thompson struck four times to follow her seven-goal haul in the 12-0 win at Bucanner Ladies.
A brace from Kate Jackson completed the scoring against Thirsk while Becca Dawson (3), Jodie Curry and Sara Robson were also on target at Bucanner.
The County Cup draw has pitched City's first team in action against their reserves in the first round on Sunday, October 21 at York College, kick off 1pm.
