GUISELEY will be without top-scorer Rowan Liburd for their National League North home clash with York City after he completed a deadline-day move to Hereford.

The former Wycombe and Stevenage striker missed Tuesday night’s 1-0 home win over Curzon Ashton – Guiseley’s first triumph since New Year’s Day – having been away on international duty with Saint Kitts & Nevis, making his debut in a 2-0 CONCACAF Nations League loss to Suriname.

But, after returning, he has switched to the Lions' National League North rivals.

Liburd, 26, has netted 13 times this term for Guiseley, who will also be without on-loan Hednesford Town forward Lewis Archer after he suffered a hamstring injury on his home debut against Curzon.

But Marcus Bignot did add 17-year-old Fleetwood attacker Michael Fowler to his ranks on a youth loan yesterday.

Ex-City midfielder Will Hatfield, who has netted six times in 2018/19, is also available again, having served a two-match ban for accumulating ten yellow cards this season.

Hatfield is one of five former Minstermen on the Lions’ books, with Kaine Felix expected to make the first XI too.

The ex-Boston winger has hit the target five times since a summer move from Brackley but has not made the scoresheet in any of the Nethermoor club’s last 17 matches since December 22’s 3-1 win at Nuneaton and was replaced 65 minutes into Tuesday’s triumph.

Kennedy Digie, meanwhile, was an unused substitute in the midweek clash, having moved from Kidderminster last month following his loan spell at Bootham Crescent.

Veteran net-minder Jon Worsnop, now 35, is also only being used as emergency cover for on-loan Sheffield United shot-stopper Marcus Dewhurst, although Guiseley tend to name five outfield players as substitutes.

Worsnop is Guiseley’s goalkeeper coach and is overseeing the development of Dewhurst, who only tuned 18 last week and was a member of the England under-17 squad last summer.

Finally, striker Reece Thompson is a long-term absentee and has not featured for Marcus Bignot’s men all season.

Defender Niall Heaton has been sidelined for the last two games too following a head injury and midfielder Scott Smith has been out for more than a month due to a knee problem.

Fourth-bottom Guiseley’s vital first victory in 14 matches moved them five points clear of the relegation zone, with a game in hand on the two sides directly below them - FC United of Manchester and Ashton United.

The clean sheet also represented their first since a 0-0 draw at Darlington on November 3, although the previous four fixtures had all only been lost 1-0.

No National League North side has shared the spoils more times than Guiseley this term with a tally of 15 only beaten by four teams in the country’s top-seven divisions - Halifax (18), Stoke (17), Northampton (16) and Chesterfield (16).

Thirteen league defeats is, accordingly, the same amount as eighth-placed Kidderminster, but only crisis club Nuneaton have won fewer games than Guiseley’s seven, although two of those triumphs have been against top-five teams Brackley and Bradford Park Avenue.

Guiseley are now seeking back-to-back successes for only the second time in just over two years of football. They last managed that modest feat in mid-September by beating Alfreton and FC United.
