DANIEL Pedras, Matt Overton and Robbie Bettson could not prevent York City Futsal from only sharing the FA Super League spoils against a Southend side, who hadn’t picked up a point all season.

The Essex visitors took a surprise second-minute lead following a well-worked move down the left, but the hosts struck back immediately when Pedras easily beat his man on the right and fired a shot into the roof of the net.

York then took the lead when a quick kick in between Matt Overton and Fabinho Almeida saw the former’s long-range, left-footed shot nestle in the bottom corner .

On ten minutes, Southend were back on level terms as a patient build-up saw a long ball beat the home defence, enabling the away forward to scramble the ball over the line.

Pedras went on to hit the bar from close range, before good defensive work by Michael Bulmer saw him break up a Southend attack and a quick ball from Overton put Bettson through, who netted following a quick one-two with Bulmer .

Southend equalsied again, though, when a poor pass from Almeida was intercepted and the subsequent cross finished smartly.

After the break, a Pedras shot was cleared off the line by a Southend defender.

On 33 minutes Bettson’s long-range attempt also struck the bottom of the post.

Finally, in the last minute York were awarded a free kick for handball and, as Pedras lined up looking like he was about to shoot, his disguised pass found Overton who somehow managed to strike the post from a metre out.
