YORK shot putter Scott Lincoln believes he is on top form ahead of this weekend - when he will earn his 20th England cap.

Lincoln came away from last weekend's Vienna Classic with a silver medal and a new indoor personal best of 19.09 metres - the first time he has thrown over 19m indoors.

He will be looking to build on that throw at the upcoming Reykjavik International Games this Saturday and Sunday.

The week after, the seven-time British champion heads to Birmingham for the British Championships.

Of his milestone, Lincoln said: "I knew I'd done a fair amount of England caps, but I was impressed when realised it was 20. It's quite an achievement.

"I went to America recently to train with some of the world's best and I came back with a notebook of things to try. Me and Paul (Wilson, coach) sat down at the end of last season and each said what we wanted to do.

"We found a happy medium and we cracked on.

"I'm in the best shape of my life. I've got a little back niggle, which isn't affecting my throwing too much. I'm probably 80 or 90 per cent now, but once it's sorted, I'll probably scare myself.

"I can't wait for what's coming."

Meanwhile, also in Vienna, fellow City of York athlete Alex Botterill clocked one minute 48.85 seconds to finish second in his heat in the 800 metres, and cement his place as number one in the UK U20s rankings.
