YORK City’s new manager Steve Watson will get a first chance to run the rule over his Bootham Crescent squad on Tuesday night.

The Minstermen will play host to Redcar Athletic in the quarter-finals of the North Riding Senior Cup and ex-Gateshead chief Watson is likely to use the fixture to familiarise himself with his new charges.

Kick-off is 7.30pm with Middlesbrough under-23s having already booked their place in the last four of this season’s competition following a 1-0 win at Whitby Town at the end of last month.

While City are hosting Redcar, meanwhile, Marske United will be entertaining Thornaby.

Scarborough Athletic’s home tie against Guisborough Town will then complete the last-eight contests a week on Tuesday.

Visiting Redcar are currently 12th in the Ebac Northern League’s second division table, having won promotion from the Wearside League last season.

The Green Lane club, who had not operated at Northern League level for almost a century, beat Boro Rangers 3-0 in the Senior Cup to set up a visit to Bootham Crescent.

City, meanwhile, defeated first-round hosts Northallerton Town 4-0 with Jake Wright, Alex Kempster and Wes York joined on the scoresheet by a Dan Jones own goal.
