TADCASTER Albion’s final game before Christmas was abandoned after 15 minutes due to sporadic floodlight glitches at the i2i Stadium.

On a freezing afternoon, Harry Coates nudged the Brewers ahead against visitors Sheffield FC in the third minute, heading home Pete Davidson’s cross.

Simultaneously, several floodlights went out. Referee Akeel Ahmed was confident there was still enough light to continue with the match so play got back underway.

The referee halted proceedings again just two minutes later though as the dreary sky became more gloomy, with the players heading down the tunnel.

The lights flicked back into life and play eventually restarted at 3:21pm.

Aiden Savory headed a Billy Whitehouse cross just wide but only four more minutes of action passed before another electrical slip forced a second stoppage.

The teams were ordered to walk off once more with the abandonment confirmed soon after at 3:30pm. A new date for the fixture will be revealed in due course.

Meanwhile, Selby Town earned a precious point, drawing 2-2 in a much-improved performance at home to Grimsby Borough.

This was enough to maintain third place in the Toolstation Northern Counties East League Division One, as Winterton Rangers lost at Swallownest.

Given the atrocious conditions, the game was never going to be a classic, but a full blooded performance from both teams certainly entertained those on the terraces.

Grimsby fashioned the better chances, despite playing against the wind in the first half. A cross from Selby’s right was headed just wide and Pete Lawrie thwarted a pair of goalbound shots.

A few minutes before the break, Liam Neal came closest for Selby. His shot was blocked on the line, after a corner had only been partially cleared.

Grimsby took the lead just before the whistle though. A free kick on Town’s right was whipped in and unchallenged ex-Robin, Jack Debnam, headed past Lawrie.

Lawrie had to make a fine save at full stretch early in the second half, but Selby were pressing themselves. Ali Ann turned his man beautifully before rifling a shot into the net. Unfortunately, the offside flag denied the hosts an equaliser.

Selby did pull level soon after. A sublime chipped pass from Louis Hutton played in Fraser Hansen, who netted his first goal in a Town shirt.

Town pushed for a winner and their spell of pressure was rewarded with a second goal. Hansen committed the defender, before crossing the ball in for Liam Flanagan to turn it past the keeper.

Grimsby roared back and although Lawrie again pulled off a fine save, he could not prevent a late leveller. The ball was played out to Josh Venney from a corner and his 25-yard strike found the bottom corner.

Flanagan missed a great double opportunity at the last but a draw was probably a fair result. Next up, Selby travel to in-form, Swallownest for next Saturday’s pre-Christmas game.

In the Premier Division, Harrogate Railway Athletic's home clash with Worksop Town was postponed but Knaresborough Town earned a thrilling 3-2 win at promotion rivals Hemsworth Miners Welfare.

The visitors fell behind twice but a late double from Benjamin Cohen sealed a comeback victory.

In the FA Trophy First Round, Harrogate Town came from behind to beat York City 2-1 with goals from Dominic Knowles and Liam Kitching.

Scarborough Athletic are now six points off the summit in the Evo-Stik Premier Division. They were without a game and leaders Nantwich Town took full advantage with a 2-1 away win at Hyde United.

Finally, Pickering Town's Evo-Stik East Division game at Pontefract Collieries was postponed due to the freezing weather.
