KAIDEN BUTLER scored a hat-trick to see York & District Schoolboys Under-14s beat their Derby counterparts 3-0 in the Yorkshire Schoolboys League.

In wet conditions, York put in one of their best performances of the season so far as they bounced straight back from last week's Yorkshire Cup defeat.

The hosts made a fast start and were ahead not long after kick off as Matthew Dawes drove past the Derby defence down the right wing and played in a low cross for Butler to flick cheekily in.

Along with Butler and Cattaneo, Adam Guilfoyle was a strong presence in midfield and, with 10 minutes gone, he fed the ball to Dawes on the touchline for Dawes to round the defence and fire in a low cross that struck the far post. Butler followed in for a simple tap-in.

Derby came into the game as the half went on but York's solid defence of Ollie Brookes-Humphrey, Will Hotson, Evan Turbine and Jacob Batty kept them at bay. On 24 minutes, a free kick was given following a Turbine tackle five yards outside the area, but the visitors failed to make the most of the chance.

The visitors took the game to York as the second half opened but Hotson and Turbine continued to marshal the back line well, allowing wing backs Tom Coy and Batty to push up field.

And one foray forward saw Batty combine with winger Callum Thorpe to set man-of-the-match Butler up for a long-range shot which the Derby keeper got both hands to but could not keep out.
