BOSTON United will entertain York City tomorrow with only bottom-of-the-table Nuneaton having lost more National League North home games this season.

The Pilgrims have tasted league defeat five times in front of their own fans during 2018/19 and were also the victims of an FA Cup upset at their York Street stadium, where Peterborough Sports won a second qualifying round tie on October 6.

That defeat represented a fourth 2-0 home reverse on the trot for Craig Elliott’s men – their worst losing sequence for just under ten years.

But, in the league, four of the five visiting teams that have left Lincolnshire with maximum points this term – Spennymoor, Kidderminster, Chester and Brackley - currently lie above ninth-placed Boston in the standings.

Fourth-bottom Southport – United’s last opponents at the Jakemans Stadium three weeks ago – are the only exception following their 2-1 triumph.

Boston’s tally of 12 home goals from nine league fixtures is also the lowest haul outside of the division’s bottom eight positions.

The Pilgrims go into this weekend on their worst run of league games without a win this season, meanwhile, having taken just two points from a possible 15 since beating Hereford 3-1 on October 27.

Since then, defeats have been suffered against Brackley (1-3), Telford (0-1) and Southport (1-2), while 1-1 draws have been fought out with Ashton and Chorley.

Elliott’s team remain just four points adrift of the play-off zone, though, with no side having shared the spoils fewer times than Boston with those two draws the only occasions honours have ended even.

Finding a reliable marksman has been one of United’s biggest problems throughout the first four months of the campaign with a quartet of players – Nicky Walker, Gavin Allott, Brad Abbott and the departed Nathan Arnold - top of the club’s 2018/19 league charts on a modest three.

Ex-Rotherham winger Walker, now 24 and in his third spell at York Street, has managed five in all competitions, however, following his brace in last month’s 5-0 FA Trophy triumph at Ashton United.

A recent attempt to address the team’s lack of firepower was thwarted last weekend when on-loan Harrogate striker Jordan Thewlis suffered ligament damage on his debut.

Defender Ben Middleton will be missing as well, this weekend, due to suffering a broken foot in the gym.

But there will be one familiar face in the home ranks with former Minstermen youth-team centre-back Ryan Qualter expected to start having played 20 games and scored once for Boston this season.

Qualter moved to the Pilgrims from Shaw Lane in January, having previously played at sixth-tier level for Bradford Park Avenue.
