SELBY Town failed to continue their winning run as they slipped to a disappointing 3-1 defeat at Dronfield Town.

The hosts' goalkeeper scarcely had a shot to save all match, leaving Selby stuck in third place in the Toolstation Northern Counties East League Division One.

Daniel Wood opened the scoring for Dronfield, with his 25-yard strike finding the net via the underside of the bar.

This stung Selby into action, and Chris Bilton and Fraser Hansen went close, but it was Dronfield who scored next, Arran Bovill nodding in from a corner.

The visitors pulled one back after a free kick was swung into the box. The ball fell to Jordan Snodin at the back post and he smashed the ball home beyond the bodies on the line.

Selby did not push on though, and Dronfield further extended their lead in the second half, as Wood knocked in a cross to net his second.

Ryan Woodhead almost made it 3-2, firing just over, before Selby stopper Pete Lawrie made a point blank save to keep his side in the game.

Disaster struck as Bilton was was shown a straight red card for a reckless tackle, while a similar tackle by a Dronfield player, which left Lawrie limping, was only punished with a yellow.

A struggling Lawrie prevented things from getting worse, with Selby eventually glad to hear the final whistle without suffering any further damage to their goal difference.
