CITY of York Hockey Club Men I remain ninth in the North League premier division after a 3-2 defeat at second-placed Didsbury.

An early Tom Feasby goal and an Alex Cockram strike sent the Minster city outfit into the break level with the high-fliers before a disputed second-half goal gave the hosts the points.

Soon after Feasby netted his reverse stick strike, Didsbury equalised before taking the lead following some sloppy York defending.

But City got back in it as a slick one-two between Cockram and Jack Purrington ended with the former slotting home.

City will have felt they did enough in a hard-fought second half to have earned at least a draw, enjoying some good chances and several short corners.

However, the game was decided by a goal from a shot that appeared to come off a Didsbury forward’s thigh.

On Saturday, City host fifth-placed Whitley Bay & Tynemouth who are winless in four fixtures.

City of York II lost 3-1 to Kingston-upon-Hull in the Yorkshire League premier division - dropping points at home for the second game running.

But the visitors clawed their way back into the game and equalised from a penalty corner with City a man down after an early break.

Five minutes before half-time, Hull took the lead when poor marking left a man free in the middle of the 'D' to score.

City forced some good saves from the Hull keeper while Doyle kept the hosts in it with some crucial saves at the other end, but Hull got the important two-goal cushion midway through the half.

The Minster city side will seek their first win in five games when they travel to fifth-placed Morpeth on Saturday.

Conversely, City of York Ladies II consolidated top spot in Yorkshire Women's League division one with a resounding 6-1 win at Northallerton.

Player-of-the-match Fay Chapman gave the visitors an early lead with a strike from the top of the ‘D’ before Holly Davies and Vicky Skilton made it 3-0 going into the break.

Ruth Laybourn scored shortly after the restart, with Davies and captain Skilton both bagging braces to round off the visitors' scoring.
