YORK & District York Under-12s Schoolboys enjoyed a 3-1 win at Nottingham in the Michael Dale Trophy thanks to goals from Arthur Jefferson-Hallett, Kiam Browne and James Rennocks.

The visitors started brightly and almost took the lead after two minutes as Joseph Meek hit the bar with the keeper beaten before Browne sent a shot wide.

Nottingham proved more difficult opponents than York were used to and, as the first half settled down, both teams started to fancy their chances.

Jefferson-Hallett broke the deadlock in the 46th minute, collecting a Browne pass and beating a defender before clipping a right-foot shot past the onrushing keeper.

York could smell blood and minutes later doubled their advantage as Browne finished off a loose ball from a Rennocks corner.

Nottingham halved the deficit soon after, however, finishing off after substitute keeper Jack Yates had pulled off a good save when the hosts were clean through.

The hosts had York under increased pressure as they chased the equaliser but the defence held firm and, with just under 10 minutes left, Rennocks netted from a Jefferson-Hallett ball in to seal the win.

York's man of the match was Ben Armitage.

York U14s Schoolboys were beaten 3-1 at Harrogate in the Yorkshire Schoolboys League.

The visitors had taken a one-goal lead into the break thanks to a Callum Thorpe strike but a dominant second-half period for Harrogate turned the game on its head.

A balanced opening to the game saw both goalkeepers tested from range as the sides battled in midfield, while the stoppers were also equal to any crosses.

York took the lead 20 minutes in as they broke from a succession of Harrogate corners, with Archie Colley receiving the ball on the wing before the visitors passed their way through the defence for Thorpe to finish low when one-on-one with the keeper.

Colley was next to test the home stopper from close range as York kept the pressure on, although Harrogate looked dangerous on the counter and Tom Coy had to make a last-man tackle to keep the Minster city boys on top at half-time.

The second half started in similar fashion to the first, with Matthew Dawes testing the keeper from a long-range free kick.

Harrogate were still looking good on the counter and won a free kick on the edge of York’s penalty area, but the three-man wall did its job and York cleared to break with Adam Guilfoyle and Kaiden Butler.

But the hosts had the bit between their teeth and tested keeper and the visitors' man of the match Louis Powell, who eventually succumbed to the pressure and was beaten three times.

York continued to work at the other end but could not break down the hosts' strong defence.
