PICKERING Town made a big step away from the bottom of the Evo-Stik League east division table with a 2-0 win at Stocksbridge Park Steels.

Man-of-the-match Josh Greening scored a goal in each half as the Pikes leapfrogged their hosts on their way up to 13th.

The Steels had a couple of early chances either side of Nick Thompson firing over for Pickering before Greening found the net for the third game running, slotting home from a good pass down the middle.

Home keeper Jordan Amissah pulled off a good save 25 minutes after the break to keep his side in it, but Greening wrapped up the points shortly after as he smashed in from 20 yards.

Scarborough Athletic extended their lead at the top of the premier division to four points with a 2-0 home win over Marine. Ross Killock and Michael Coulson were on target for the Seadogs.

Selby Town are fifth in Northern Counties East League division one following a controlled 3-0 home win over Glasshoughton Welfare.

Liam Flanagan, Alisan Ann and Joe Dale were all on the scoresheet as the Robins notched their fifth league win on the bounce and now sit just two points behind the top two.

Just before the 15-minute mark, Flanagan smashed after a corner was half-cleared and, eight minutes later, another corner saw Ann fire high into the net after Carl Stewart and Ryan Gothard had had efforts blocked.

Glasshoughton started the second half on top but substitutions, including Fraser Hansen making his debut replacing Flanagan, got Selby back on track and Dale sealed the win two minutes from time, slotting in after beating two defenders and the keeper.

Knaresborough Town remain third in the premier division after losing 2-1 to leaders Yorkshire Amateur. William Lenehan got the consolation.

Harrogate Railway Athletic are off the bottom after twice coming from behind to earn a 2-2 draw with Garforth Town thanks to goals from Adam Turner and Fraser Lancaster.
