YORK City’s new loan signing Joe Ironside has admitted he doesn’t know what his future holds beyond January.

The 25-year-old Kidderminster forward has joined the Minstermen for two months, having netted more than 20 goals in each of his last two seasons operating at National League North level.

But the ex-England C international has found himself out of favour at Aggborough in recent weeks and has confessed that he is now just focussing on doing his best in every game for City, saying: “I’m not sure what will happen beyond January and will just be focussing on the next game as they come along.

“This is a massive club that, hopefully, I can help move in the right direction. I like to score goals and, if I can get in between the sticks, I’ll be looking to put the ball in the back of the net.”

Ironside played for City chief Sam Collins when the latter was Hartlepool’s caretaker manager during the former’s brief loan spell at Victoria Park in 2014.

He is also a former team-mate of City duo Jake Wright and Tom Allan at Sheffield United and Alfreton respectively.

Like Collins, meanwhile, he has no reservations about his ability to play alongside fellow targetman Jordan Burrow if required, reasoning: “I played up front with another big lad at Nuneaton, so I’m used to that.”

Ironside started Kidderminster’s 3-1 loss against Chester in mid-September and, ahead of the Deva Stadium outfit’s visit to Bootham Crescent tomorrow night, he added: “They’re a good side who are at the right end of the table and we will need to be at it to get a result.”

Centre-back Kennedy Digie, who has joined Ironside in North Yorkshire on loan from Kidderminster, also declared that he is unsure of where he will be playing his football after the turn of the year and, commenting on his switch, said: “I’d have liked to played more at Kidderminster this season, but I’m delighted to have joined a massive club and I’m focussed on doing really well here now and showing what I’m about.

“I’ve always lived with my mum and little brother in Kidderminster too, so it’s a bit different moving up here and good to get out of my comfort zone.”

Digie was a member of the Kidderminster team that won 3-0 at Bootham Crescent earlier this season but, despite that scoreline, he feels his new side have the potential to be much higher than their current 15th-placed position in the table.

“I’m surprised by some of the club’s recent results, because I thought there were some good players in the team during that match in September,” Digie pointed out. “I’ve seen the teams that do well in this league and I know there’s a lot of quality in the changing room. I also feel me and Joey can bring more quality to the team.”
