BILLERICAY Town boss Dean Brennan believes a draw was a fair result at Chesterfield.

Moses Emmanuel cancelled out Laurence Maguire’s first half opener to allow Town to claim a 1-1 draw at the Proact Stadium.

And, although Brennan was keen to praise goalkeeper Alan Julian for an impressive save in the dying moments of the FA Cup first round tie, he feels his side did enough to ensure the Spireites will head to the AGP Arena.

“It was swinging and swaying because they would have a five minute spell of being on top and then we would have a five minute spell,” said Brennan.

“We wanted to play a bit more technical than we did because the pitch was fantastic.

“I thought we went behind a little bit against the run of play because we were a little bit on top and just starting to get to grips with it.

“It was a good game and there was a lot of ability on the pitch.

“Jules made a fantastic save at the end and we were a little bit naïve at that stage because we were throwing bodies forward, which led to them going on the counter attack and getting in behind us.

“Chesterfield were very honest in their performance and were well organised.

“They were really strong from restarts and they were, physically, very strong. We knew we had to match that in different occasions, but we wanted to be as technical as we can be.

“I thought we were in patches, but not enough to win the game. I think a draw was probably a fair result.”

However, Brennan feels Billericay need to stop falling behind and conceding from set pieces if they are to enjoy success this season.

“It’s my responsibility to address the problem with us keeping on going behind and conceding from restarts,” added the Town boss.

“I’m the one that picks the team and gives the jobs from restarts, so I take responsibility for that and I will have to find an answer for that as soon as possible because it has got to stop.

“But what we did show is that character, resolve and togetherness that we have built.

“Everybody has got to be going in the same direction and that’s driven by the owner and myself as the manager.”
