CONNOR ROBINSON was the big winner at York City Knights' celebratory end-of-season Gala Dinner at York Racecourse.

The plush awards ceremony hailed the Knights' Betfred League One title-winning campaign while also marking the 150th anniversary of the rugby club in York.

And half-back Robinson, already the Betfred League One Player of the Year and York supporters' club's Player of the Year, took home two more major accolades from the night - The Press Player of the Year and Players' Player of the Year awards.

Robinson broke all-time York RL records for goals and points in a season during 2018 as the Knights beat Bradford Bulls to the sole automatic promotion place to the Championship.

The main trophy of the night, though, the club's Player of the Year gong, chosen by the coaches, went to captain fantastic Tim Spears.

The Shooting Star award, for the player who made the greatest strides over the past 12 months, went to former York Acorn amateur Joe Porter, whose star rose most notably in the spring with two tries in a man-of-the-match performance in the Challenge Cup against Catalans Dragons, who went on to lift the trophy.

The Volunteer of the Year, meanwhile, was Knights Ladies coach Daryl North, while the Clubperson of the Year was press officer and media man Gavin Wilson, who was hailed for his social media work behind the scenes which continually raised the profile of the club and in part led to the League One Club of the Year accolade at Septembers' Betfred Awards nights.

There were three nominees for each of the player awards.

Nominated as Player of the Year along with loose-forward Spears were Robinson and Ben Cockayne - the same three players who made the shortlist for the Press Player accolade.

Robinson and Cockayne were also in the top three in the Players' Player poll, along with St Helens-bound Joe Batchelor.

Cockayne had also been on the shortlist for the League One Player of the Year gong but had to settle for a league winner's medal only.

The Shooting Star nominees alongside packman Porter were props Ronan Dixon and Dan Hawksworth.

The event also heralded the Knights Ladies' maiden season in the Women's Super League.

Their Player of the Year was Daisy Sanderson, the Players' Player was Ashleigh Hyde, and the Shooting Star award went to Bettie Lambert.

All money raised on the night will support the Knights Foundation's work in the community.
