WIGGINTON Grasshoppers went top of the Fastpack Ltd York Sunday Morning Football League first division after Harry Clapham scored a hat-trick in a 4-1 win at Brayton.

The only goal of the first half came after eight minutes when Matthew Mulhearn chipped the ball over the Brayton back line for Clapham to run onto and fire past the keeper.

Mulhearn hit a post while Reuben Young, Jamie Willstrop and Clapham had further chances for Wiggy but they could not add to their tally before the break.

The second period saw the home side start brightly but they could not make the most of their chances and were made to pay when Jack Thompson headed home a Neale Holmes cross to make it 2-0.

Clapham hit his second from close range before rounding the keeper to complete his hat-trick with 20 minutes to play.

Brayton made the scoresheet in the dying minutes.

Hambleton pipped Atlanta 2-1 with goals by John Matthews and Will Ramsey, Carl Brockhill replying.

In division two, Tang Hall WMC closed the gap to the top two with a 5-1 win at Elvington Harriers. Joseph Rawcliffe hit a hat-trick with Bailey Simpson and Jason Ezard also on target.

Selby Olympia climbed two places after a 7-4 win at FC Harrogate - the scores having been level at 2-2 at the break.

Thomas Lazenby ended with four goals for the victors, with Andrew Porter (2) and Robert Frair also netting.

Another high-scoring game saw Mitre beat K Town United 6-4. Samson Wildwood was another to hit four goals, with Owen Pudsey and Oliver Coulthard also adding for Mitre. James Heeles bagged a hat-trick for K Town, with Thomas Drake their other marksman.

Bottom side Pollington bagged their first win of term, beating Rawcliffe United 2-1 - Scott Inhester scoring both goals. Matthew Harrison got the reply.

There was mixed joy for the YSMFL teams involved in county cup action.

Acomb Club reached round three of the North Riding County FA Sunday County Cup, beating The Erimus 3-1, while Bishopthorpe CFC likewise progressed in the North Riding Sunday Challenge Cup by beating Thornaby Park 3-2 thanks to goals by Daniel Lister, Christopher Trewick and Connor Watson.

However, in West Riding FA competitions, Malt Shovel were edged 4-3 by Navigation in the Sunday County Cup, and Thorpe United fell 4-0 to Sporting Pudsey in the Sunday Trophy.
