CITY of York Hockey Club Ladies I slipped to ninth in North Women's League division one following a 1-1 draw at Chester.

This was the fourth stalemate of the season - and second in a row - for City, who have seven points from seven games so far.

With only one short corner awarded throughout the match, it was a disciplined game with end-to-end play.

York host 10th-placed Bowdon II on Saturday still looking for a much-needed win to push them up the table.

City started the game at Chester well, the host defence under immediate pressure. Chester, however, were strong on the counter-attack and made the most of this midway through the first half to break the deadlock.

York put the pressure back on in the second half, with great build-up from defence supplying the midfield and attack with plenty of opportunities.

They levelled through a Celia Wright deflection after a superb pass from Faye Garland to the top of the 'D' was collected and hit goalwards by Hannah Collier.

York did not find the net again but remained focused to hold out for a 1-1 draw.

City of York Ladies II lost for the first time this season, 3-1 at home to Yorkshire League division one leaders Leeds III.

Second-placed City will look to get back to winning ways on Saturday away to fifth-placed Bridlington.

It was a closely-fought game against Leeds but the visitors took an early lead, which they doubled before York pulled one back as Jo Perryman finished off a short corner.

City put in a stronger second-half display with some good attacking play but Leeds’ defence proved too strong and the visitors found a third goal to seal the points.

Elsewhere in the Yorkshire League, City of York Ladies III won 1-0 at Driffield II thanks to Liz Armitage’s strike.

City of York Ladies IV lost 1-0 to Bingley Bees, Ladies V crashed 8-1 at home to Horsforth and Ladies VI lost 3-1 to Leeds VI, Jenny Shaw on target.
