NINETY-THREE top anglers from as far afield as Nottingham and Manchester contested the annual Yorkshire Ouse Championship 2018.

The event is run by York & District Amalgamation of Anglers on the River Ouse around York.

Snow, sleet showers and a brisk northerly wind made conditions difficult on the day, and a little chilly for those not in the sun.

Bradford ace Craig Turbitt turned in a classy performance. Fishing long rod and stick float from his peg in Poppleton Moatfield, he caught quality roach and chublets for a total of 15lb 12oz, earning him £400 in pools plus options.

In-form Knaresborough man Daryl Taylor took advantage of his draw on the Palace end peg. Fishing a four-gram Bolo rig, he caught well in the last half of the match, taking a lovely mixed bag of hybrids, small skimmers, perch and some quality roach to finish runner-up with 14lb 2oz, earning £330.

Nottingham angler Dave Limbert edged third place from the tightly packed field, with 9lb 2oz of roach and chublets caught on pole from Sellars length. His efforts gained him a £260 reward.

The best of the chasing pack was Graham Flesher with 8lb 11oz from Church Farm, followed closely by Tadcaster rod Chris Burton on 8lb 6oz from Poppleton and Airborough angler Kevin Moore with 8lb 4oz.

The 14 section winners each won £40 for topping their section of seven anglers.

The next York DAA event is the Tower Trophy this Sunday on the Ouse below York. A few places are still available. To book, phone the match secretary on 07971 534029.
