A QUARTET of York Indoor Bowls Club players have been accepted for international trials.

Jason Parkinson and Jack Bird have been invited to attend the England Indoor Bowls Association senior trials while Bird and Kieran Earnshaw will attend the under-25s trials.

Neal Macdonald will go down as a reserve for the U25 trial, which takes place in Rugby, Warwickshire, on Sunday, December 2, the day after the senior trial.

The weekend’s action saw York IBC knocked out of the Egham Trophy with a 79-70 loss to Hornsea.

The home rink of Carol Banks, Sheila Turpin, Craig Newton and Tony Horobin had been leading 24-7 before dropping 14 shots in the run-in to only win 25-21

Meanwhile, the rink of John Whiteley, Lynne Tattersall, Helen Wood and Dave Stroughair were 14-9 in front but lost their last three ends to draw 16-16.

Away, Carol Instone, Maureen Walker, Mark Clarke and Bird were level at 13-13 before dropping a single point on their last end to lose 19-18.

Hayley Robinson, Linda Harrison, Jeff Normanton and Scott Walton were having little luck as they trailed 23-2, but won their last five ends to only go down 23-11.

Tomorrow at noon, both York Knights and York Romans are in Yorkshire Over-55s League division two action, with the Knights facing Selby ‘B’ and the Romans up against Scarborough.

On Saturday at noon, York Ladies begin their defence of the Yetton Trophy when they face Scarborough while the men play Hornsea in the Denny Cup.

On Monday at 12.30pm, York ‘B’ play Harrogate in the EIBA Over-60s Double Rinks, the same competition York ‘A’ play in on Tuesday against Hornsea.
