YORK RI RUFC claimed their third win on the bounce and moved up to fourth in Yorkshire Four as they beat Stocksbridge 23-0.

Hosts RI started on the front foot and continued in that vein, putting in a disciplined performance to dominate scrum possession against a bigger pack.

Baptiste Briu got on RI's scoresheet first, goaling following a string of penalised errors by the visitors, and continued pressure created a further two Briu penalty attempts, but these fell short in the wind.

Captain Frazer Land was next to score as an RI kick from their own 22 bounced favourably into the hands of a flying Adam Osguthorpe whose pass to supporting forwards set up Land to force his way over under the posts and Briu added the conversion.

Despite RI's quick tackling, Stocksbridge did enjoy 10 minutes of sustained pressure on RI's line midway through the second half, but the ball was eventually cleared as RI took a visitor's scrum.

RI went further ahead with two more Briu penalties and a superb try by Jim Lewis, who received the ball from a line-out on the visitors' 22 and side-stepped his way to score. Briu added the points to bring his tally to 13.

Yohan Barthélemy picked up the man-of-the-match accolade.

Next week, RI face the stern test of leaders Ossett, who have enjoyed a 100 per cent winning start to term.
