THE final York & District Anglers Association Veterans match drew a field of 30 to fish at Marley’s Lake.
Leading the way in the over-75s category was Frank Harvey with 85lb 12oz. Second was F Wheets (47lb 8oz) with G Brammar (39lb 4oz) and R Hutchinson (28lb 12oz) completing the prize list.
There was a much closer encounter in the under-75, with D Bocking (43lb) just beating D Watson (42lb 4oz). The others prizes went to P Collier (30lb 12oz) and T Avis (29lb 8oz).
With the Veterans match season completed, thoughts now turn to maintenance and a work party has been organised at Laybourne Lakes for Monday. The aim is to prune back some of this year’s growth, improving accessibility for those who fish there.
The next open match is the Ouse Championships on Sunday.

Fishing rights on the River Rye at Newsham Bridge and Beningbrough Hall have been renewed for two years.
Angling is no longer allowed on the sandbank at Beningbrough (opposite the Nidd mouth). After consultations with the other parties, agreement was reluctantly reached on this and the responsibility for tidiness and unsocial behaviour now falls on those who now have complete use of the area involved.
A member of the public recently returned several peg tickets, having picked them up on the Ouse river bank. Match fishing members are reminded these tickets should be removed when leaving the water.
