YORK City Futsal team will host reigning FA Super League champions Reading on Sunday, having enjoyed a 9-1 victory at Southend in their latest contest.

Junior Roberti’s men made it two wins from their first three fixtures this term thanks to Robbie Bettson’s hat-trick and other goals from Matt Overton, Manuel Martinez, Fabinho Almeida, Michael Bulmer, keeper Martin Michels and Rolando Sandoval.

Bettson and Overton efforts, both from low Daniel Pedras crosses, ensured City got off to a flying start.

Southend replied mid-way through the half from the ten-metre spot, after York committed a dubious sixth foul. before Bettson also converted a visiting penalty to make it 3-1 at the interval.

After the break, a dominant City saw Bettson strike again with a far-post header following good work down the right by Martinez., who then nutmegged one player and rounded the keeper.

At 5-1 down, Southend introduced their ‘powerplay’, removing their keeper and playing with five outfield players, but away captain Almeida, immediately capitalised on that decision, seizing possession and finding the vacated goal from his own half.

England under-23 international Bulmer then slotted in from the ten-metre mark, before Michels got in on the act, firing into an unguarded home net from his own goalmouth.

The rout was completed when Chilean Rolando Sandoval countered down the right and lifted in a delightful finish.

Kick-off on Sunday at University of York is 4.20pm with entry £3 for adults, £2 for U16s and free for U5s.
