NEW Earswick Indoor Bowls Club's 'A' team comprehensively beat Selby 'B' in division two of the Yorkshire League, taking all the rinks.

At home, Bob Elliot, Dave Kermode, Brian Gray and Kevin Liddell with the help of a couple of early fours beat G Chambers, G Abbott, R Oldfield and J Ward 26-14.

John Harrison, Brian Birch, Rod Walker and Tony Abbot allowed L Todd, K Terry, T Savill and B Smith to win only five ends and triumphed 27-8.

At Selby, Paul Murray, Andy Humphries, Colin Pickup and Bill Waldie beat the home quartet of B Flint, A Smith, I Lumb and B Brian 26-10, while Mick Head, Andrew Fothergill, Ralph Tiplady and Paul Dawson saw off T Warp, J James, D Render and G Birch 33-20, after being pegged back from 15-5 after nine ends to 15-15 after 12.

New Earswick 'B' lost to Harrogate 'B' in division three, with only one winning rink.

At home, Gordon Fratson, Vic Woolley, Steve Hudson and Colin Ellis led 7-0 and finished the stronger to win 18-12.

But Dave Imeson, Graham Bell, Bob Barrett and Dave Sykes, despite also leading early on, fell 26-14.

At Harrogate, Bill Nuckey, Dave Toms, Graham Lockwood and Eric Cookson led 17-11 after 16 ends and 17-15 with two to go but lost 19-17.

The other away game was even closer, the sides tied at 7-7, 9-9, 13-13 and 16-16 before Joe Barker, Dave Hutchinson, John Snowden and Alwyn Anderson dropped a two at the last to lose 18-17.

Harrogate also knocked New Earswick out of the Egham Trophy with a narrow 71-67 win - despite Earswick winning three of the four rinks.

Earswick's Jackie Toms, Monika Morgan, Rod Walker and Paul Murray led 13-3 after nine ends and held on for a 21-16 victory, and Pat Walker, Moira Ellis, Colin Ellis and Andrew Fothergill came from 12-6 down to win 17-12.

Bob Elliot, Norma Davies, Irene Warrington and Gary Jones also won at Harrogate, being pegged back from 15-9 to 15-15 before triumphing 20-16. However, crucially, Sally Domville, Kath Sykes, Dave Sykes and John Harrison crashed 27-9.
