YORK Indoor Bowls Club enjoyed a comfortable 109-50 victory against Doncaster in the Egham Trophy.

At home, Dave Stroughair, Helen Wood, Jeff Normanton and Joan Jackson easily won 31-14.

Jack Bird, Mark Clarke, Maureen Walker and Betty Richardson swapped the lead several times before Doncaster won it 12-18 after a strong finish.

Away, Scott Walton, John Whiteley, Linda Harrison and Hayley Robinson, and Tony Horbin, Craig Newton, Sheila Turpin and Carol Banks enjoyed comfortable 37-9 and 29-9 victories.

York dominated the home leg of their Yorkshire League division one match against Harrogate.

The rinks stood at 1-1 and the aggregate score 38-37 following the first leg in Harrogate, but York ran out 97-53 winners overall.

Tony Horobin, Jeff Normanton, Mick Cooney and Jack Bird went from 8-7 after 10 ends to win 36-8, and Phil Emmerson, John Whiteley, Mal Harrison and Phil Parsons won 23-8.

York 'B’ beat Doncaster 82-70 in division two.

At York, Geoff Walker, David White, Dave Elcock and Harley Wenham led 15-4 after 10 ends en route to a 25-15 success, while Dave Dale, Steve Lea, Alan Hampshire and Ken Griffiths comfortably won 27-12, thanks to a five and a four midway through.

In Doncaster, Malcolm Thompson, Ray Calpin, Allen Clapham and Graham Instone lost 23-12 after dropping 11 shots in three ends at a crucial point.

Mal Bulmer, Gordon Fennell, John Crowe and Charlie Arnett similarly dropped eight shots in three ends midway through, and this proved crucial in a 20-18 loss.

York 'C', though, lost 103-73 on aggregate to Hornsea 'B' in division three - despite winning two rinks and drawing one.

Mike Snowden, Dave Preece, Trevor Scott and Colin Robinson won a ding-dong contest 21-19 thanks to a three on the penultimate end.

Ray Clark, Dave Dearlove, Ken Robinson and Andy Lockwood led by eight shots after 15 ends and seven after 18 but had to cling on to a 20-19 win.

At Hornsea, Tony Bryan, Dave Clarke, Ken Robinson and Andy Lockwood were pegged back in the last three ends and finished 21-21.

The decisive contest, however, saw Jim Robertson, Alan Yoward, Jack Parsons and Wally Darbyshire crash 44-11.

In the Yorkshire Ladies' League, York had a good 66-53 victory over North Cave, winning three and drawing one of the four rinks.

At home, Linda Harrison, Maureen Walker, Chris Reaston and Hayley Robinson won 18-11, eight shots in four ends midway through making the difference, while Helen Wood, Sue Kirkpatrick, Jen Brown and Carol Banks drew 13-13.

Away, Carol Instone, Pat Potter, Bernadette Johnson and Joan Jackson led 7-0 and bagged a five on the 10th end but had to hold on to win 18-16.

Melanie Brooke, Sheila Turpin, Pat Bracken and Maureen Robinson went 11-6 up after eight ends and, while, Cave fought back to 11-10, three twos while only dropping singles gave York victory.

York Knights beat York Romans 25-16 in Yorkshire Over-55s League division two.

The Knights' Geoff Walker, David White, Terry Wheatley and Harley Wenham beat Mal Britton, Dave Dearlove, John Sandle and Andy Lockwood 30-13 after a strong finish.

Team-mates Mal Thompson, Ray Calpin, Ken Robinson and Wally Darbyshire beat Alan Yoward, Ron Munro, Allan May and Doug Mitchell 22-18, three separate threes creating a buffer.

Ray Clark, Alan Hampshire, John Walton and Ken Griffiths also won for the Knights - 26-13 after building an 11-shot lead by the 10th end.

Steve Lea, Gordon Walker, Mal Rankeillor and Colin Robinson got the Romans' consolation, winning 25-16 after 14 shots without reply in mid-contest.

The home legs of York Vikings v Leeds, York Knights v Scarborough and York Romans v Doncaster take place tomorrow, all at noon.

On Saturday, York meet Scarborough in the Denny Cup at noon. On Sunday, York visit Lincoln in the Top Club competition, starting at 10am.
