SAM Collins is not seeking new additions to his York City squad after being given the manager’s job on a permanent basis.

The former Port Vale and Bury defender signed just one player – former Falkirk attacker Alex Harris - during his eight-match caretaker spell prior to being named as Martin Gray’s full-time successor at the helm.

With Tom Allan featuring during Saturday’s 2-1 success at Southport, Collins has now used 21 players – encompassing everybody outside of the club’s first-year professionals and also including youth-team pair Fergus McAughtrie and Nathan Dyer – to register five wins, three draws and a defeat in eight weeks as boss.

Collins has subsequently declared himself happy with his inherited squad, but he will remain open to agent approaches and admits he is looking at potential areas of the team that might be bolstered in the future.

On his plans as City chief, Collins told The Press: “In the short-term, I want to try and keep picking up results by working with this group of players, because I’m happy with the squad. I think we’ve got a really, good group of talented players, a lot of options and people who are scoring goals as well, so we want to stick with what we’ve got.

“As time goes on, I have ideas on where we could be stronger and it’s also natural in football that, somewhere along the line, a couple will move on and a couple will come in. If something comes up – either from an agent or somebody approaching us with a player that would strengthen us in a certain area - then we’d also be stupid not to look at it, but I’ve got to be fair to the players here and give them opportunities to impress me.

“Some of them have really taken on board what we’re trying to do and, with the others who have been a bit up and down, we’ll just keep working with them because we don’t just train for the sake of it – we train to try and improve players whether you’re Macaulay Langstaff, Nathan Dyer or Jon Parkin. We’ve got things in our head that we think will benefit the team and each individual and they are having a right go for us, which is brilliant, so I’m really pleased with them all.”
