YORK & District Schoolboys Under-11s enjoyed a magnificent 7-2 home win over a strong Mark Barber Soccer School team.

Cam McMillan and Matty Ellison hit doubles alongside goals from Max Rhodes, Reuben Smith and Ben Farrar as they downed the Scarborough-based side in a friendly.

James Borlase earned the man-of-the-match accolade.

York seemed to step up a gear from the previous week's 2-0 defeat to Leeds 'A', looking ready for the contest with movement, wing play and good passing.

The first quarter saw Smith net directly from a corner before Farrar and Borlase worked well down the right to set up Cam McMillan's for his first.

Farrar bagged his second after using a strong shoulder to hold off a defender and slot home.

The visitors pulled one back before the end of the period.

Chances came and went for Rhodes and Smith in the second quarter before Farrar went close with a good half-volley from the edge of the area that was just tipped away by the keeper.

McMillan got his second with a finish from a corner.

Jimmy Hendon and Louie Regan looked comfortable in the bottom right corner when playing their way out of danger, while Eugene Revill was called into action to make some good saves, tipping one over the bar.

At the other end, Ellison bagged netted his first with a half-volley from inside the box and got his second following good work from Rhodes.

MBSS appeared to grow in confidence in the third quarter, and Brogan Dunne was called on to make a great goal-line clearance, but Rhodes further stretched York's lead after making a driving run and finishing into the bottom corner.

The visitors played well in the final quarter and pulled a goal back.
