YORK City caretaker boss Sam Collins has revealed that he has held no discussions with the board this week concerning the club’s full-time managerial vacancy.

Collins will oversee his eighth game in temporary charge tomorrow when St Ives Town visit Bootham Crescent in the third qualifying round of the FA Cup.

During six-and-a-half weeks at the helm, the former Hull and Huddersfield defender has won three games, drawn three and lost one.

City managing director Steve Kilmartin had previously told The Press that the club’s directors intended to use this week “to have meetings with a number of interested parties including caretaker-manager Sam Collins with a view to appointing a manager”.

But Collins reasoned that, with a midweek trip to Nuneaton to occupy him, there had not been a chance to discuss his candidacy for the permanent position.

“Everything is still exactly the same as it was from day one, week two or whatever,” the Pontefract-born 41-year-old declared.

“I’ve not spoken to anybody this week and there haven’t been any phone calls this week, because we’ve been busy with training, games and travelling, as well as making sure the players get their rest in before preparing for this weekend’s game. I’m just getting on with it and then, hopefully, things will work out OK.”

Collins added that teenage winger Fergus McAughtrie is unavailable for the contest against the Cambridgeshire part-timers, having picked up a minor hamstring problem during a behind-closed-doors reserve match this week.

Striker Macaulay Langstaff is the only other doubt, with fellow forwards Jon Parkin and Jake Wright, who both scored as substitutes during the 2-2 draw at Nuneaton, on standby for recalls.

“Macaulay is quite sore again and Fergus is more of a precautionary measure, so it shouldn’t be too long before he’s available,” Collins said.
