YORK City enjoyed a winning start to their FA Super League futsal season, as the team stormed back from trailing 5-1 to edge an 11-goal thriller at Birmingham.

Robbie Betson hit four goals for the visitors, who also had Manuel Mankoke and Matt Overton on the scoresheet.

As York looked for a positive start after a tough first Super League season, the opening exchanges were fairly even, with the hosts taking the lead before Bettson replied.

The Midlanders then stepped up a gear and deservedly found themselves 3-1 up after ten minutes.

Birmingham went on to apply further pressure and were better than the visitors in every aspect of the game, resulting in a 5-1 lead at half time.

There was a lack of belief in the York dressing room and Super League followers may have started to believe this term would tell a similar story to that of last season.

However, the York starting four, consisting of Bettson, Fabinho Almeida, Tom Blackburn and Mankoke came out on the front foot and immediately improved the team’s attitude.

Just five minutes in Bettson had scored his second of the game and the change in four didn’t alter the way York played with the entire team’s performance improving as the half went on.

Bettson soon claimed his hat trick and Mankoke scored on the half-hour mark to make it 5-4.

With his team now on the front foot, Bettson added his fourth goal and the comeback was complete when Overton produced a smart finish after a good save from the Birmingham keeper.
