GOALS from subs Jake Wright and Jon Parkin saw York City come back from behind twice to earn a point at Nuneaton.

Wright headed in the first equaliser to end a ten-game wait for his first goal of the campaign and, after impressive home forward Dior Angus had grabbed his second of the night, veteran Parkin pounced to secure a share of the spoils.

Nuneaton had been the liveliest side during the opening exchanges and deservedly forged in front on ten minutes.

Devon Kelly-Evans’ right-wing corner hung in the wind, with Adam Bartlett misjudging the flight of the ball and failing to make meaningful contact with his subsequent attempted punch.

As City then failed to clear their lines, Angus hooked an eight-yard effort into the unguarded corner of the net. Enoch Andoh went on to run opposed down the middle of the pitch before trying his luck with a 20-yard attempt that lacked the power to trouble Bartlett.

At the other end, a rare City attack might have seen the scores levelled on the quarter-hour mark but, having forced his way clear of the home defence, Macaulay Langstaff could only prod his shot straight at advancing keeper Cam Belford. Nuneaton, though, threatened again when Adam McGurk drove just wide from distance and an unmarked Angus headed wide at the far post after Kelly-Evans’ cross had been allowed to travel across the face of Bartlett’s goal.

Angus also headed wide from a Rhys Davies cross as he seemed to find space in City’s penalty box at will.

The Minstermen might still have gone into the interval on terms, however, as Joe Tait’s near-post header from a Kallum Griffiths corner struck the crossbar and the City defender was unable to adjust his feet quickly enough to steer the ball on target when it came back into the six-yard box.

After a 25-yard McGurk shot was gathered by Bartlett, Sean Newton’s excellent left-wing cross was then headed well off target by Langtstaff.

Nuneaton also made the brightest start to the second period, with Angus forcing Bartlett into a flying near-post save after being played through the right channel by McGurk.

The City keeper had to react smartly moments later too, as he dived to his left to parry away Andoh’s firm shot.

For City, David Ferguson headed wide at the far post from a right-wing Alex Harris cross, but Andoh should have doubled the home side’s lead when he brushed past Tait only to stab weakly wide when clear on goal.

Newton, meanwhile, curled a free kick straight into Belford’s chest, before Wright equalised on 74 minutes.

The former Harrogate Town striker headed powerfully past Belford from eight yards following Josh Law’s excellent right-wing cross.

Shortly afterwards, an attempted edge-of-the box Parkin lob drifted just wide.

But Nuneaton were far from finished, with Angus teasing Newton before firing in a shot that was kept out by Bartlett with his legs at the near post.

McGurk also went close from 20 yards, before Angus struck again in spectacular fashion on 82 minutes.

City sub Wes York sloppily lost possession in the Nuneaton half and the hosts quickly worked the ball down the left channel, where Angus ran at Law before curling a terrific shot beyond Bartlett and inside the away keeper’s left-hand upright.

But the Minstermen were level again within two minutes when Parkin pounced to stab in from eight yards after the ball had ricocheted off Ferguson on the Nuneaton box.

The home side went closest to winning the match, however, in the closing stages with McGurk, Carl Baker, Courtney Richards and Andoh all missing the target with late chances.
