YORK City skipper Joe Tait and strikers Macaulay Langstaff and Jordan Burrow could miss tomorrow night’s National League North trip to Nuneaton.

The trio are all nursing minor problems following Saturday’s 4-2 home triumph over Guiseley and caretaker boss Sam Collins has insisted he will not field any player if it means running the risk of losing them on a long-term basis.

Hamza Bencherif would be the most likely candidate to replace Tait, while the likes of Jon Parkin, Jake Wright and Wes York will all be on standby should Langstaff and Burrow be ruled out.

On his squad for the Warwickshire clash, Collins said: “Macaulay Langstaff and Joe Tait might need fitness tests and Jordan Burrow is a bit sore as well, but we’ve still got bodies around to change things if we need to do.

“If we lose somebody for one game, then so be it. I’d rather that, than they pick up anything more serious.”

Nuneaton, meanwhile, have lifted themselves off the bottom of the table following Saturday’s 1-0 home win over fellow strugglers FC United of Manchester and, of the challenge that awaits his team, Collins added: “They’ve got a few issues at the club and they’ve chopped and changed in terms of personnel and formations.

“They had injuries and suspensions at the weekend but got a good result with what they probably thought wasn’t their strongest side, so we’re not sure what to expect, other than we know it will be a tough game, as they all are, so I’m hoping we can maintain the performance levels we have been showing, while not being as open as we have been at times. But we’re going there to win, because I won’t be happy taking a point from any game.”

Collins went on to reveal that his players were in for work on Sunday – a policy he intends to introduce ahead of all midweek fixtures if he is made the Minstermen’s full-time boss, explaining: “It’s just the right thing to do in terms of preparation as you have to start the recovery process as quickly as you can and, then, do some work on your next game as soon as possible.

“Sunday and Monday have, therefore, probably been a bit more classroom-based, with a little light work, stretching and head tennis thrown in.”
