STRENSALL Tigers pulled off a huge shock in the first round of the York & District FA Senior Cup - by knocking out neighbours Huntington Rovers.

A first-half goal from Jack Bell and a 70th-minute Danny Franks strike earned the York Minster Engineering League division one outfit a 2-1 win over the otherwise unbeaten premier division leaders.

Holders Wigginton Grasshoppers, meanwhile, got their defence of the cup off to a magnificent seven start.

Tich Nyenda struck a hat-trick as Hoppers eased past Tadcaster Magnets 7-1 in the first round.

YMEL premier division rivals Old Malton St Mary’s scored two in each half to knock Kirkbymoorside out with a 4-1 home win in the Ryedale derby.

Chris Dempsey helped his F1 Racing side to a 7-3 home win over Haxby Town.

In the York FA Junior Cup first round, a five-star display from Tom Young - who normally plays in goal - helped Osbaldwick Reserves to a 12-0 win over Sporting Knavesmire.

George Raynor added a double brace to Young's five goals.

Cawood’s Mathew Ward scored a hat-trick in his side's 6-0 win over Copmanthorpe Reserves while Nathan Spreckley scored all three goals in Stamford Bridge’s home win over Old Malton St Mary’s Reserves.

Wigginton Reserves' Mark Scoreby’s shot from the halfway line levelled the score against Fulford at 2-2 to force a penalty shoot-out which Wigginton won 4-2, with two saves from goalkeeper Mackenzie Nichol.

Cliffe Reserves ran out 9-2 winners at Wilberfoss Reserves with the aid of two hat-tricks, one from Darren Jackson and, with a maiden treble in senior football, Josh Evans.

Thorpe United Reserves were 7-1 winners at home to Hemingbrough United Reserves, where a three-goal haul by Daniel Mustill was eclipsed by Jay Smyth, who bagged four.

A Deacon Brace hat-trick gave Malt Shovel a 3-0 home win over Selby Olympia.

There were byes for Elmpark, Brooklyn Reserves, Haxby Town Reserves, Fulford Reserves, Tadcaster Magnets Reserves, Stamford Bridge Reserves, Heworth Reserves, Bubwith Reserves, Beagle and Poppleton United Reserves.

Meanwhile, due to the York FA ties, there was only a limited programme in the York Minster Engineering League.

But one match saw Pocklington Town move four points clear at the top of division one with a 3-1 win over Harrison Signs.

Shaun Elvidge fired home a penalty, with Jason Nattrass and Connor Mathie also notching for the home side.

In division three, Wheldrake made it three wins out of four thanks to James Smith, Chris Verzi and Steve McClean who all bagged in a 3-0 success over Elm Park. Heworth enjoyed a 4-0 win over Wheldrake in reserve 'C', Adam Galloway (2), Paul Noon and Sam Smith finding the target.
