MORE than 150 Acomb Hockey Club members past and present helped the club celebrate its 50th anniversary this month.
Members and families travelled from as far afield as parts of Europe to take part in the festivities at the clubhouse, at which the Lord Mayor Councillor Keith Orrell was also present.
The event started with a mixed grass field game between 'ancients' (over-35s) and 'moderns' (under-35s) which, after four quarter-hour periods, diplomatically ended all-square at 2-2.
Cllr Orrell and Lady Mayoress Judith Orrell officially cut the celebration cake and congratulated the club on its achievement, sentiments echoed by Clive Marshall, president of City of York HC.
The Lord Mayor also thanked "the small team of volunteers for their time and organisational skills in putting on an exceptional event" and wished the club success for the next 50 years.
Anyone interested in joining the club can phone chairman Bob Dickenson on 01904 782210.
