HUNTINGTON Rovers maintained their lead at the top of the York Minster Engineering League’s premier division following a fine 8-0 triumph over Copmanthorpe.

The table-toppers were 5-0 up by the interval thanks to strikes from Jonny Bullivant, Chris Dyson, Ash Hope and Alex Burton, along with an own goal.

Second-half goals from their three substitutes Josh Hutchinson, Danny Gray and Charlie Ward wrapped up the points and made it eight wins out of eight for Rovers.

Old Malton St Mary’s continued their pursuit of the leaders, defeating Sporting Knavesmire by 3-0, while Wigginton Grasshoppers moved up to third following their 3-1 victory at F1 Racing.

Eddy Clapham fired the visitors into the lead, although his shot was helped into the net by a goalkeeping error.

Shortly before the break, the F1 net-minder forced Gary Newton’s cross over his own line whilst attempting to clear.

Ex-F1 winger Tichaona Nyenda then volleyed home a Newton corner to make it 3-0 before Jordan Holt made a penalty save to deny a resurgent F1.

The home side grabbed a consolation shortly afterwards when Liam King fired home from 20 yards.

In Reserve A, Huntington Rovers edged a well-contested thriller 4-3 with Wigginton Grasshoppers as last year's top two went head-to-head.

The home side missed an early chance and found themselves 1-0 down early on after Luke Roberts headed home.

Ash Hill restored parity after blocking the Wigginton keeper's clearance, with the rebound flying into an empty net.

Rovers then moved 2-1 ahead and had chances to go further clear only for Luke Conkleton to equalise from 20 yards on the stroke of half-time.

The loss of Rovers keeper for handling outside the area gave Wiggy the edge and they gained a fortunate goal when Alessandro Delrio forced an error to make it 3-2.

A frantic finale then followed as Rovers pushed for the equaliser, Lee Bunce hitting a tremendous volley to drag the scores level again.

Tempers flared and two Wigginton players were dismissed for second yellow card offences before Mark Unwin rose to head home and seal the points for the home side late on.

Dan Mustill (2) and Luke Raynor struck to give Thorpe United a massive win over Pocklington Town and keep their 100 per cent start intact.

Church Fenton also boast a perfect record thanks to a 3-2 win at Easingwold Town.
