ADAM Lyth completed a superb century during the third morning of Yorkshire’s Specsavers County Championship clash with Hampshire at Emerald Headingley.

Yorkshire have advanced their second innings from 172-4 overnight to 287-5, a lead of 314.

As long as the rain stays away, which may be optimistic, Yorkshire are on course for a victory which will secure their Division One future.

If they draw, they are likely to only need a maximum of two points at Worcestershire next week.

Lyth began the day on 60 not out and reached his first century since last June off 179 balls with 13 fours.

He will resume after lunch on 134.

He completed a fifth-wicket stand of 133 with Jonny Tattersall, who fell for 43 - the only wicket of the morning when he was caught at short fine-leg sweeping at Liam Dawson’s left-arm spin.

That left Yorkshire on 265-5, a lead of 292.

Both men were dropped this morning by substitute wicket-keeper Aneurin Donald.

Tattersall was on 16 and Lyth on 94, off Kyle Abbott and Dawson respectively.

Regular keeper Tom Alsop is suffering from a hand injury.
