TIM Bresnan has helped put Yorkshire in a strong position against Hampshire at Emerald Headingley, completing his first Championship five-for in a little over two years.

Bresnan took the first three Hampshire wickets to fall during the second morning of the penultimate Specsavers Division One match of 2018, with the visitors reaching lunch at 156-9 in response to 184.

They advanced from 79-5 overnight, with Bresnan claiming five for 27 from 12 overs so far.

Hampshire scored 77 in 40 overs this morning.

Bresnan, 33-years-old, had Kyle Abbott lbw for eight, Tom Alsop caught at second slip for 24 and Liam Dawson superbly caught and bowled one-handed for 10 as the score fell to 110-8 in the 42nd over.

Matthew Waite bowled Ian Holland to delay lunch with Hampshire nine down, but Gareth Berg and Fidel Edwards held out and will resume on 24 and nine respectively.
