POCKLINGTON made it two wins from two in North One East with a 34-26 derby-day defeat of big local rivals Driffield.

Andy Little (2), Archie Fothergill and Jimmy Thornton all crossed the line with a penalty try adding to the scoresheet.

One penalty and four conversions were also added by Jonty Peters.

Pock owed this victory to a dominant pack performance in front of a large, wet and good-natured crowd at Feathers Field.

If the previous week’s win against Bridlington had been a nail-biting one-point success, this triumph was emphatic and the game was in the bag midway through the second half, with the score only made respectable by Driffield grabbing two late consolation scores.

The Percy Road outfit started strongly to go ten points up in as many minutes, before letting Driffield enjoy their best period to make it 10-10 at the end of the first quarter.

Pocklington surged upfield from the off and opened the scoring with an angled fourth-minute Peters' penalty.

Then, fly-half Christian Pollock burst through the middle, allowing the pack to take over to go through the phases and number-eight Little to plunge over, with Peters converting from midway out.

But the hosts let Driffield back in it, with George Mewburn grabbing a converted try under the posts.

More penalty awards also ended with Driffield kicking the equalising goal.

The Pock pack then took scrum control, forcing Driff to cough up a set-piece penalty which was kicked to the corner, where a line-out catch and drive was completed by skipper Fothergill.

Peters converted from near touch and, as the interval approached, Driff were penalised under their posts for killing the ball and lost their skipper to the bin.

Pock subsequently opted for the penalty scrum and Little claimed a pushover try, converted by Peters.

Any thoughts of a Driffield comeback were dashed early in the second period when Fothergill stole a couple of visiting lineouts and, after a sniping run from scrum-half David Davison, Pock laid siege to the Driff line.

The away scrum just held out, but relentless pressure ended with hooker Thornton crashing over for the bonus-point try.

Peters’ conversion came back off the post but, at the end of the third quarter, another Pollock break resulted in a close-range scrum opportunity that saw Driffield penalised twice before the referee went under the posts to award the penalty try.

The visitors rallied in the last ten minutes and, while Jack Walters made a couple of crunching tackles, Driffield's left flank eventually found an opening for a Gary Stephenson try that was converted.

In the last minute, Driffield then broke again with Alessandro Zavatti crossing the line for a third converted try of the day from close range.

Pock now visit a Consett team on Saturday who have lost both their opening games.
