Man of the match: Ash Robson – there were some big performances in centre-field, not least from Tim Spears and Joel Edwards, but the winger’s display cannot be overlooked. Hard-working and busy, he also came up with some crucial plays in defence in another huge rearguard effort from James Ford’s men.

Referee: John McMullen (Wigan) – started well but came up with more and more rank bad calls the longer the game went on. Wasn’t helped by his touch judges who missed a plethora of forward passes.

Penalty count: 9-13

Half-time: 10-0

Weather: wind picked up before kick off and brought a little pre-match rain, but then dropped off again and it brightened up near the end.

Attendance: 1,692

Moment of the match: Joel Edwards’ pass out of the tackle that saw Connor Robinson sprint diagonally to the left corner for York’s decisive second try was top-drawer – shades of NRL from the Aussie.

Gaffe of the match: York had just gone 10-0 up but a misunderstanding between Ben Cockayne and Joe Porter under the restart gave Oldham a rare first-half set in the red zone and allowed them to finish the first half on top. They would surely have scored, too, but for two brilliant interjections from Ash Robson.

Gamebreaker: this was yet another Knights game this season that was alive even after the final hooter. It was only decided when the bounce of the ball from Oldham's last-ditch hopeful punt goalwards took it out of bounds.

Match rating: there might have only been three tries but, boy, was this gripping stuff from start to finish - and brilliant stuff for the Knights as they close in on the League One title.
