KALLUM Griffiths is the new leader of The Press Player of the Year contest.

The 28-year-old right back, pictured below, has jumped ahead of former Spennymoor team-mate Joe Tait at the summit of the leaderboard after collecting three points towards the standings as our man of the match for last weekend’s 1-1 draw at Hereford.

Our other points were awarded to Josh Law (two) and Simon Heslop (one) as our second and third-highest rated performers respectively against the Bulls.

Griffiths also collected the two Player of the Month bonus points available to the player who received most man-of-the-match votes from our Twitter poll.

Former Gateshead forward Macaulay Langstaff, meanwhile, is now out on his own as the team’s top scorer.

Langstaff’s opening goal at Edgar Street was his third of the season to move him ahead of last term’s leading marksman Jon Parkin.

The latter has moved two clear on the assists table, though, after teeing up Lansgtaff’s first-half effort.

That mean the former Championship campaigner has now created three goals for his team-mates in 2018/19, while nobody else in the squad has managed to achieve that feat more than once.

Ten of City’s players have now entered the referee’s notebook eight games into the National League North campaign.

Hamza Bencherif, Simon Heslop and Jake Wright are bottom of the Minstermen’s Fair Play League with two yellow cards apiece, while suspended midfielder Russ Penn, who misses next weekend’s home clash with his old club Kidderminster, is the only player to have seen red so far, following his dismissal last month against Blyth.
