TRAINER Kevin Ryan is hoping for fresh success at York tomorrow when Stormbringer lines up in the Ryedale House Garrowby Stakes, the £50,000 Listed race feature.

Hambleton-based Ryan was on target in good company at the Welcome to Yorkshire Ebor Festival thanks to Emaraaty Ana striking in the Group 2 Al Basti Equiworld Gimcrack Stakes.

And now he has his sights set on a further Stakes victory with Stormbringer ready to contest the six-furlong Listed race.

Ryan’s charge, a three-year-old son of Dutch Art, has enjoyed a solid season most notably when finishing second by the smallest of margins in a £100,000 heritage handicap at Newmarket’s July Festival.

He returned to the same track but did not suit the testing underfoot conditions that day and was well beaten in a similar race on the July Course.

With an official rating of 105, his trainer feels he is worthy of a step up in grade and is looking forward to tomorrow's assignment, a race that the stable knows well, having captured it with Tommy Taylor 12 months ago.

He said: “Stormbringer is in good form. The ground is key to him – it was too soft at Newmarket last time out, but his form on fast ground is good.

“His rating entitles him to run at this level and as long as it stays dry, he’ll go well.”

Backed by local property developers Newby, The Ryedale House Garrowby Stakes has attracted a small but select field of six runners including Limato, a two-time Group 1 winner.

Limato is near certain to be favourite having returned to winning ways in Listed company at Newmarket last month.

Evergreen campaigners Kimberella and Tropics have also both been in winning form this season while Justanotherbottle was narrowly denied in the Stewards’ Cup at the Qatar Goodwood Festival.

The field is completed by four-year-old filly Perfect Angel, who is making a belated seasonal reappearance.

A seven-race card is preceded by the Charles Owen Pony Series Finals which sees the next generation of jockeys in action.
