YORK Green bowls team capped an excellent season with success on Yorkshire Summer League finals day, dropping only on point.

The Thanet Road outfit had gone through their league campaign unbeaten, losing only one rink and drawing another throughout the seven matches to top their section by 11 points ahead of second-placed Doncaster Bronze.

In the other group, both Doncaster teams moved into the finals with Silver pipping Gold on shots-difference.

York Green's first game was against Doncaster Silver and they won both rinks.

Jim Picken, Pete Bradley and Dave Dale only lost one end in a 22-3 romp, while Alan Hampshire, Malcolm Harrison and Tony Horobin picked up a decisive five on their last to win 12-8.

In the other game Donny Gold beat Bronze 36-16.

In the second phase, York made one change against Bronze, with Billy Flavell coming in for Picken as Dale's rink easily won again, 16-5. Horobin's rink came from 5-0 down to win 18-6.

The other game saw Gold beat Silver 27-13.

Green then sealed the title against Donny Gold as Dale's team, with Picken returning in place of Bradley won 21-5 and Horobin's side drew 11-11.

Green took the title by eight points ahead of runners-up Doncaster Gold.

Tonight, York & District IBC hold their annual general meeting, starting at 7pm where they will announce another surplus for the year and green fees again remaining unchanged at £3 for two hours' bowling, plus a recommendation there is no increase in annual subscription for the 2019-20 season.

Meanwhile, Rowntree Ladies celebrated their season with their President's Day event at their Haxby Road Green.

The team won both the afternoon and evening York leagues this term while the rink of Betty Richardson, Pat Walker, Linda Harrison and Maureen Walker won their way through to the national Ladies Senior Fours Finals at Leamington.
