Tom Kohler-Cadmore is hopeful Yorkshire can still challenge for victory in their ongoing Specsavers County Championship match with Somerset at Emerald Headingley.

This Division One clash has reached the halfway mark with Yorkshire 292-7 replying to 399.

They had been 119-5 before Kohler-Cadmore and Andrew Hodd - who both play in the Bradford Premier League - shared a superb 173 for the sixth wicket either side of tea to drag the game towards parity.

If Yorkshire’s lower order, marshalled by unbeaten Hodd on 84, can have a good morning, they will be bowling second time around on a pitch which remains helpful for both seam and spin.

“It was nice to finish the day well from the position we were in,” said Kohler-Cadmore, who hit his first century for Cleckheaton last Saturday.

“If we can get close to their score and put them under pressure, it will be an interesting game.

“Jack Brooks got what he deserved (five wickets), and all the other lads kept running in. Even when Matt Fisher went down, everyone stood up. It was great fight from the lads.

“Then it was nice for myself and Hoddy and Adam Lyth and Gary Ballance up top, who I thought played nicely.

“It’s been quite a good day for us to put a couple of good partnerships together.

“There’s still a ball in the pitch. So there’s no reason why we can’t have a chase on the last day if we bowl well second time around.

“Myself and Hoddy felt the best way to play on that pitch was to be aggressive, to fully commit to each shot. If you nick it, you nick it kind of thing.

“It was good fun out there because he’s really relaxed to bat with.”

Kohler-Cadmore’s 81 represented his highest first-class score for Yorkshire since arriving from Worcestershire midway through last year, albeit only in his fifth game.

“I got 70 odd at the Oval last year,” he added. “And I’ve already said I want to cement a spot in the side.

“That’s high on my agenda, to perform well in Championship cricket as well as white ball cricket.”
