TWO City of York Athletic Club aces helped England win the team title at the Manchester International meeting.

Lucy Hadaway, making her senior England debut, picked up bronze in the long jump while experienced shot putter Scott Lincoln, several times the British champion, took gold.

The event was held at the Sports City venue in Manchester and featured teams from England, Scotland, Wales, Ireland, Iceland, British Athletics League and Great Britain Juniors.

The 18-year-old Hadaway was competing as the youngest athlete in the field, buoyed by her successes at the England Senior Athletics Championships at the end of July, where she set a new personal best of 6.39 metres.

Her performance at Manchester fell a little short of this, peaking at 6.05m, but it was enough to get her onto the podium. She was edged out by Iceland's Hafdís Sigurðardóttir, who found 6.24m to claim maximum points, and GB Junior Josie Oliarnyk, with 6.12m.

Lincoln, meanwhile, earned his first-placed finish in the shot putt with a throw of 18.51 metres - more than one metre further than Icelandic discus-throwing Olympian Guðni Guðnason.

This accompanied the England Senior Championships gold he picked up a month ago at the same venue.

Meanwhile, two other City of York members enjoyed good performances at the British Masters Championships in Birmingham.

In the Men's Veteran 45 group, Marcus Medina won three gold medals and one bronze while 81-year-old Geoffrey Bobb came home with two golds and two new personal bests.

Medina's 400 metres hurdle success came in a time of 61.40 seconds, 1.02 seconds ahead of the field, while his long jump distance of 6.13 metres was a new personal best.

He was nine centimetres short of his personal best in the triple jump, but his effort of 12.42m was still enough to claim top spot, 74cm ahead of second place.

The third-placed finished came in the high jump, where his 1.60-metre effort was three centimetres off first.

Bobb, competing in the Veteran 80 category, shaved 0.13 seconds off his best to win the 200 metres in 35.87 seconds and improved his shot putt best by 19cm to win with 8.95m.
