WORKINGTON Town coach Leon Pryce says York City Knights are the "best team in League One" - while plotting to crush their title hopes.

The Cumbrians did the Knights a huge favour 10 days ago when shocking Bradford Bulls at Odsal, knocking the former World Club champions off their perch and allowing James Ford's men to replace them at the top of the table.

Former Great Britain star Pryce, though, is now looking to do the same to the Minster city club as he seeks revenge for a "stuffing" in the reverse fixture at Bootham Crescent in June.

"I was embarrassed that day," reflected Pryce, casting his mind back to his team's 40-8 defeat. "It was like men against boys," he said.

"I learned a lot from that game. They absolutely stuffed us."

Pryce added: "I have a good relationship with York coach James Ford and have a lot of respect for him.

"I personally believe York are the benchmark of the competition and are the best team in League One. They are very professionally organised and have a very professional set up.

"But, if we beat them on Sunday, I think Bradford will go up as champions.

"So, as before the game at Bradford, there's no pressure on us.

"We have home advantage, we're playing well, and we are coming off the back of a win at Bradford who were top before that game.

"There's no doubt the lads will be up for it."

The Knights sit two points ahead of Bradford but the Bulls have the easier run-in and defeat in Cumbria on Sunday could swing the title race back the West Yorkshire side's way.

As things stand, only one team will be promoted automatically and one through the play-offs, although speculation remains that a league reorganisation could yet see the top two go straight up - in which case York and Bradford would already be on the verge of the Championship.

Workington, in third, are scrapping for promotion via the play-offs, and could yet meet York or Bradford again in those knockouts.

Pryce, meanwhile, has reported no new injury concerns ahead of this weekend's big game.

Meanwhile, the Knights have announced that "due to unprecedented demand", the window for early bird season ticket deals and the new range of memberships for the 2019 season has been extended to 5pm on Sunday, September 30.

Next season is set to see the club make their long-awaited move into the new Community Stadium alongside York City.

Early bird 2019 season tickets cost £169 for adults and £139 for concessions, with prices now to rise by 10 per cent from October 1. Under-16s will again be allowed free admission to all home league games.

All prices will remain the same if the club are promoted to the Championship.
