A SECOND brace in the space of four days from Joe Lumsden helped Tadcaster Albion see off visitors Shildon 4-1 and advance into the first qualifying round of the Emirates FA Cup.

Daniel Moore reduced the arrears at the start of the second half but it was the free-flowing Brewers who deservedly triumphed in the end, with late goals from Billy Whitehouse and Casey Stewart making absolute sure.

Unchanged Albion made a lively start, with Stewart's deflected effort being claimed by goalkeeper Shaun Newbrook, Joe Lumsden dragging a good chance wide and Stewart being denied again by the keeper from point-blank range.

However, the early goal did come for Tadcaster as Whitehouse set Lumsden clean through and he made no mistake, rounding Newbrook and rolling into the back of the net.

The joint Northern League leaders Shildon were massively up against and the Brewers came close to doubling their lead on 13 minutes when Corey Roper's unorthodox volley from the edge of the area had to be tipped over by Newbrook.

The visitors came closest to finding the net through Josh Barrett's sliced clearance, with Michael Ingham reacting well.

Nevertheless the first half was all about Taddy and they deservedly doubled their advantage on the stroke of half-time. Lumsden drove in from the left-hand touchline and played a sumptuous one-two with Whitehouse before brushing confidently around Newbrook and putting the ball in the back of the net.

The former Stocksbridge frontman was a constant threat and came close to completing his hat-trick at the start of the second half when volleying into the side-netting.

Shildon did improve somewhat after the break though, and their large number of noisy supporters had something to shout about on 56 minutes when defender Moore broke free to head Keith Graydon's free-kick past Ingham.

The preliminary round tie really began to hot up after this as Albion almost restored their two-goal deficit but for a super save from Newbrook from Stewart.

Lumsden again almost got his first Brewers treble on 65 minutes when showing fantastic footwork to skilfully evade Dominic Curl and Aiden Heywood but Newbrook was equal to the shot, and he soon saved well again from Lumsden.

Newbrook couldn't do anything about the next strike though as Whitehouse wrapped up the win for the Brewers after cleverly dancing past Heywood and slotting the ball into the bottom corner.

Tadcaster weren't done there either as they added gloss to the scoreline, with Savory driving up the by-line and pulling back to Stewart, who wasn't going to miss from eight yards out.

Pickering Town went down 4-0 at home to Colne in another tie, conceding goals to Alex Curran, Bradley Lynch, Reece Webb-Foster and Nick McNally, but Selby Town drew 1-1 at Kendal Town.

Carl Stewart put the visitors ahead in the 15th minute but Ben Thomas' 66th-minute equaliser means a replay at the Fairfax Plant Hire Stadium on Tuesday, September 4.

Knaresborough Town are through, however, despatching visitors Blyth 5-1, courtesy of a first-half hat-trick from Joshua Garbutt and other goals from Sam Cook and Stephen Bromley.

In the Evo-Stik League Premier Division, Scarborough Athletic lost 1-0 to a late Jack McGovern goal at Grantham Town, while Harrogate Railway Athletic went down 4-2 at Hemsworth Miners' Welfare, with Joshua Underwood and Sean Hunter getting the consolations.

Harrogate Town, who are third, made it six games unbeaten in the Vanarama National League with a 3-1 home triumph over Solihull Moors, with Liam Kitching, George Thomson and Callum Howe on target.
