YORK City will face an Alfreton Town side who already boast National League North’s second-worst defensive record.

Fifth-bottom Alfreton take the field at Bootham Crescent tomorrow, having conceded three goals in each of their first two matches – a 3-3 home draw with Kidderminster Harriers at the weekend being followed by the 3-1 midweek defeat at Brackley.

Only bottom-of-the-table FC United of Manchester, with nine, have shipped more goals during the first week of the new campaign and, while the personnel has changed considerably at North Street over the summer months, Alfreton also had problems at the back during 2017/18, letting 71 in during their 42 league contests on their way to finishing 17th in the division’s final standings.

The Derbyshire outfit are one of nine teams still waiting for their first win this term but only Stockport and Altrincham, with five goals apiece, have netted more times so far.

Former City midfielder Tom Platt grabbed the Reds’ first goal of the season and also saw an effort ruled out for offside at Brackley, while Tom Denton - a summer signing from Halifax - Bobby Johnson and Richard Peniket have also hit the target.

Billy Heath - a two-time promotion winner at this level with Halifax and North Ferriby - assumed the reins over the summer after the previous management team of Chris Moyses and ex-Minstermen legend Andy McMillan could not agree terms for the new season, having helped the Reds avoid relegation following their appointments in January.

Last season’s top scorer Brendan Daniels, who netted 13 league goals, also moved on to Port Vale while Cieron Keane left the club by mutual consent this week, along with 36-year-old former Mansfield, Bristol Rovers and Grimsby midfielder Craig Disley - the latter joining Cleethorpes in a season-long loan deal.

Heath has named the same side in both of the opening matches, but could be forced into a change at Bootham Crescent with left-back Josh Wilde - another close-season addition from the Shay - having to be substituted after three minutes of treatment at Brackley, with Callum Chettle coming into contention for a first XI slot.

Former Doncaster midfielder Harry Middleton also replaced Johnson at half-time in midweek and could be handed his first start for the club.
